STOCK ALERT Sail may accelerate after raising product prices
Steel Authority of India (Sail) has raised prices of flat products by Rs 500 per tonne. Flat products are mostly used in the manufacture of automobiles and consumer durables. Prices of long products, used in construction, were unchanged. NTPC reportedly plans to raise its capacity to 75,000 megawatts (MW) by 2017 from 30,644 MW now, the company sees a need to recruit about 10,000 persons. Meanwhile, NTPC's follow-on public offer opens for subscription today, 3 February 2010. Reliance Communications is reported to have found few callers for a package that includes its prized FLAG undersea cable network. Reliance had reportedly extended an initial deadline of late-January for submissions, but had still attracted little interest for the deal seeking $3 billion.
