Australian shares ended marginally lower on first day of trade in 2018 in lacklustre trade on Tuesday, 2 January 2018, as several major financial markets worldwide remained closed for the New Year's holiday. Losses in financials and healthcare stocks offset by gains in mining stocks. The S&P/ASX 200 index ended down 0.06%, or 3.8 points, at 6,061.3, lowest close since Dec. 21. The benchmark logged a 7% gain for 2017.
