  • Market may remain choppy on F&O expiry

Global cues, macroeconomic data, progress of monsoon, movement of rupee against the dollar, Brent crude oil price movement and investments by foreign portfolio investors (FPI) and domestic institutional investors (DII) will also be watched.

Investors are keenly awaiting outcome of the 37th meeting of the Goods and Services Tax (GST) Council, which is underway in Goa on Friday, 20 September 2019.

Trading could be volatile next week as traders roll over positions in the F&O segment from the near month September 2019 series to October 2019 series. The September 2019 F&O contracts expire on Thursday, 26 September 2019.

Monsoon rains in India were above average, the weather office said on Thursday, 19 September 2019. The IMD said that for the country as a whole, cumulative rainfall during this year's monsoon from 1 June till 19 September was 5% above the Long Period Average (LPA). The June-September southwest monsoon is critical for the country's agriculture because a considerable part of the country's farmland is dependent on the rains for irrigation.

Overseas, developments in US-China trade talks will be closely watched. Chinese and U.S. delegates are meeting Thursday and Friday ahead of higher-level meetings expected early October. The two sides are preparing for new rounds of talks aimed at curbing a trade war, which has dragged on for more than a year, roiling financial markets and threatening to push other economies into recession.

Overseas, the Bank of Japan's monetary policy meeting minutes will be unveiled on Wednesday, 25 September 2019. The Bank of Japan left its key short-term interest rate unchanged at -0.1 percent at its September meeting, as widely expected.

The United States' Markit Manufacturing PMI Flash for September 2019 will be declared on Monday, 23 September 2019. The United States' Markit Services PMI Flash for September 2019 will be declared on the same day.

The U.S. GDP Growth Rate QoQ Final Q2 will be announced on Thursday, 26 September 2019.

In the Eurozone, the Markit Manufacturing PMI Flash for September 2019 will be announced on Monday, 23 September 2019. The Markit Services PMI Flash for September 2019 will also be announced on the same day.

The Euro Area's Business Confidence Index for September 2019 will be announced on Friday, 27 September 2019.
