North Delhi Power Limited (NDPL) is a joint venture between Tata Power Company and the Government of NCT of Delhi with the majority stake being held by Tata Power. It distributes electricity in North & North West parts of Delhi.
It offers various consumer services, including complaints redressed system, consumer bills and account, consumers facilities, energy conservation and safety, and other services. The company, formerly known as North Northwest Delhi Distribution Company Limited.
The company-started operations on July 1, 2002 post the unbundling of erstwhile Delhi Vidyut Board. With a registered consumer base of around 10 lakh and a peak load of around 1180 MW, the company's operations span across an area of 510 sq kms.
NDPL is the first power distribution utility from India to have won the prestigious Edison Award in the international category. The prestigious award is given annually by the Edison Electric Institute (EEI) to honor both international and U.S. electric companies for outstanding contributions to the advancement of the Power industry. NDPL was also conferred the 'Asian Utility of the Year 2008' award by Asian Power and is also the winner of Palladium Balanced Scorecard Hall of Fame Award. NDPL won the Asian Power Utility of the Year 2009 award from Asian Power Singapore for the 3rd consecutive year.
In July 1, 2002, the company commenced operation in unbundling and privatization of distribution function of erstwhile Delhi Vidyut Board. During the year 2003-2004, the company purchased 5552 million units of energy from Delhi Transco Limited and recovered amounts equivalent to 3059 Mus of energy from its consumers. During the same year, the company introduced Automated meter reading system helped improving the billing system and in the same year, the company reduction AT & C losses, improvement in quality of supply, consumer delight, and strengthening the key enablers - creation of infrastructure facilities and process.
During the year 2006-2007, the company launched Automated Bill payment kiosks, a first in Delhi and NCR region, these unique ATM like kiosks accept both cash and cheque payment towards electricity bills and even issue receipt to the consumer. During the same year, the company started a Mobil Bill Payment Center for consumers living in remote areas. During the same year, the company introduced Supervisory Control & Data Acquisition (SCADA) at all grid substation level to facilitate remote operation and monitoring of assets.
During the year 2007-2008, the company purchased 6276 million units of energy. During the same year, the company introduced Automatic Meter Analysis System for helped in reduction of revenue and proper load management. During the same year, the company achieved better electrical insulation and in the same year, the company improved the System Average Interruption Duration Interest (SAIDI), System Average Interruption Frequency Index (SAIFI), and Customer Average Interruption Duration Interest (CAIDI).
During the year 2008-2009, the company launched Energy club phase 1V and in the same year, the company used for cameras for detection of gas leakage. During the same year, the company automating all its 66 KV & 33 KV Grids and in line with unmanned 47 grids out of 54 with a view to operate all equipment from Central Command Center.
