Agri Buzz: Kharif acreage soars 11.30%, Rice and Oilseeds sowing swells

According to the latest data, the kharif crop acreage stands at 262.15 lakh hectares as on June 30 as against 235.44 lakh hectares last year for the same period, up around 11.30% on year. Area under major crop Rice has spiked by 47% to 35.02 lakh hectares so far in the current kharif season. The acreage under pulses also soared 37% on year to 21.09 lakh hectares. Area under coarse cereals jumped by 19.25% to 41.75 lakh hectares. The acreage under Oilseeds spiked 20% on year to 48.99 lakh hectares. In other crops, the sugarcane acreage edged up marginally by 0.51% to 55.16 lakh hectares while the cotton area fell 9% to 54.66 lakh hectares.
