Agri Buzz: Rabi acreage up 1.53% on year, Wheat area gains while Mustard seeds sharp drop


According to latest data, as on 4th February 2025, the total sowing Rabi crops has reached 661 lakh hectares, up modestly than last year’s corresponding acreage of 651 lakh hectares, up 1.53%. On an average, it is more than 250,000 hectares above the normal acreage. The area under major commodity wheat has seen a reasonable increase compared to last year. Wheat had been sown across 324 lakh hectares, compared to 318 lakh hectares at the same time last year, up 1.88%. The normal acreage for wheat is 312 lakh hectares. Data shows that the total area for sowing pulses this year is 14 lakh hectares, which is higher than last year's 13.78 lakh hectares. Data shows that the total area for sowing pulses this year is 14.08 lakh hectares, which is higher than last year's 13.78 lakh hectares by 2.17%. The total area for sowing oilseeds has been recorded at 9.74 lakh hectares, with mustard being the main crop at 8.93 lakh hectares. However, last year, mustard was sown in 9.18 lakh hectares and the sowing of the commodity is thus down 2.72%.
