Agri Buzz: Rabi area gains 2.65% on year, oilseeds acreage rises more than 3%

The total area sown under rabi crops in current winter season has edged up by 16.4 lakh hectares or 2.65% on year to 634.14 lakh hectares as on January 2 this year, data released by the Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare showed. The area under wheat has moved up to 334.17 lakh hectares, up 1.86% on year. The area under pulses has gone up by 2.62% on year to 134.3 lakh hectares while area covered under coarse cereals has increased 2.23% to 51.79 lakh hectares. The area under oilseeds stood at 96.3 lakh hectares, up 3.24% on year.
