Commodities Buzz: India witnessing robust double-digit growth in steel production compared to global declines

Sandeep Poundrik, Secretary, Ministry of Steel, highlighted in a speech yesterday India’s robust 12%+ growth in steel production compared to global declines, with per capita consumption surpassing 100 kg. He stated that 47% of production comes from the secondary sector and assured Ministry’s support for R&D, sustainable raw material sourcing, and logistics facilitation. He appraised that studies shows the hydrogen costs is likely to drop to $2.5/kg in next five years, urging adoption for low-carbon transition.
