Commodities Buzz: US average daily Aluminium production down around 9% on year in Jan-25


According to a latest update from the United States Geological Survey (USGS), US primary Aluminum production in January 2025 was 57,000 metric tons (t). The average daily production in January 2025 was 1,850 t, unchanged from that in December 2024, 9% less than that in January 2024, and 10% less than that in January 2023. Total aluminum recovered from scrap in January 2025 was 297,000 t, 5% more than that in December 2024 (revised), compared with 296,000 t in January 2024 (revised), and 6% more than that in January 2023. Of this, 176,000 t of aluminum was recovered from new scrap, and 122,000 t was recovered from old scrap (due to rounding, does not equal total). The January 2025 average US spot market price of primary aluminum ingot was $1.41 per pound, slightly more than that in December 2024, 19% more than that in January 2024, and unchanged from than that in January 2023.
