Economic Buzz: ECB keeps interest rates unchanged for third time in row

The European Central Bank kept its key interest rates unchanged for a third policy meeting in a row on Thursday. The Governing Council, led by ECB President Christine Lagarde, held the deposit rate steady at 2.00 percent. The refinancing rate was retained at 2.15 percent and the marginal lending rate at 2.40 percent. The previous change in Eurozone interest rates was a quarter-point reduction in June. The ECB Governing Council statement noted that a robust labour market, solid private-sector balance sheets, and the effects of past rate cuts have all contributed to supporting growth, reflecting the region’s economic resilience.
