Economic Buzz: EIA says US GDP likely to grow by 2% in 2025, cuts estimate by 0.4%

The US Energy Information Administration or EIA stated in a latest monthly update that its forecast this month assumes that real GDP will grow by 2.0% in 2025, a downward revision of 0.4% from last month, and by 2.0% in 2026, a downward revision of 0.2% from last month. The revision is the result of slower growth in the first half of 2025. A decline of 0.5% in consumer spending in January, coupled with slow growth for the rest of the year, contributed to the downward revision to the GDP forecast. The decrease in January is the largest since February 2021.
