Global economic preview: Global markets on edge as trade war simmers, key data rolls in

Markets brace for a volatile week as trade tensions stay in the spotlight, with investors parsing the fallout from US tariffs and watching for counterblows. In the US, inflation data is poised to take center stage—headline CPI may cool to a five-month low, but producer prices are expected to heat up. Meanwhile, the Fed’s March minutes could offer fresh hints on rate strategies and their inflation calculus.

Across the Atlantic, a mixed economic picture emerges. The UK’s February GDP is forecast to inch higher, pointing to a mild rebound, while Eurozone retail sales may break a five-month losing streak. Germany’s industrial engine, however, risks stalling again, and Italy's output may follow suit.

In Asia, all eyes turn to China’s inflation and trade figures, seen as key barometers of tariff impacts and domestic demand. India’s central bank is likely to hold steady, while New Zealand could deliver a surprise rate cut amid global headwinds. Indonesia’s inflation bounce will also be closely watched after last month’s historic deflation dip.
