Global economic week ahead: US shutdown, Fed, ECB, monetary policy, trade reports worldwide

Global markets will remain focused on the US government shutdown this week, as lawmakers show little progress in reaching a funding deal. The impasse threatens key economic releases, including trade data, jobless claims, and the federal budget, while investors also await the preliminary October Michigan Consumer Sentiment survey and the FOMC meeting minutes for guidance on US monetary policy. In Europe, attention will be on the ECB’s monetary policy meeting accounts, Germany and Italy’s industrial output, and Eurozone retail sales, alongside inflation updates from Russia and key ASEAN economies. In Asia Pacific, markets in China remain closed for the Mid-Autumn Festival, while Japan’s data calendar includes household spending, the current account, producer prices, and the LDP leadership election. India and Australia will see PMI, consumer confidence, and inflation readings, while the Reserve Bank of New Zealand is expected to cut rates. Investors will monitor global central banks and economic data closely amid persistent uncertainty.
