Raw Sugar tumbles to one-month low as Indian output rises around 28% this season

Global Sugar markets continued to remain under stress amid elevated output from India. The March NY world sugar futures shed around 2% to close at 14.50 cents per pound. Prices have slipped to around one-month low as India may permit additional sugar exports to reduce a domestic supply glut. Latest data showed that India’s Sugar Season 2025–26 has started on a strong footing due to early crushing operations and improved yield. As on 15 December 2025, 479 sugar mills across the country have produced 77.90 LMT of sugar, compared to 60.70 LMT produced by 473 mills during the corresponding period last year, registering an increase of 17.20 LMT (28.34%). Cane crushing has increased by 183.75 LMT (25.61%), accompanied by an improving trend in sugar recovery. Sugar has dropped around 5% this month, reversing a gain of similar magnitude in last month.
