Agri Buzz: Summer crop sowing down around 2.30% on year, pulses area spikes 22%

Summer sowing saw a modest drop this season due to weak trends in rice acreage. Acreage under summer crops, which will end by May, stood at 43.69 lakh hectares (lh) as on March 24, down around 2.28% compared to year ago period. Area under the key crop paddy was down 2.7% on year at 28.65 lh while nutri/coarse cereals area fell 10.50% at 6.84 lh. Area under summer pulses gained 21.75% on year at 3.47 lh. Oilseeds area eased 1% on year to 4.73 lh.
