Economic Buzz: China industrial profits jump in early 2026 on strong factory performance

Chinese industrial firms reported a sharp rise in profits in the first two months of 2026, as authorities continued efforts to manage industrial overcapacity and weak consumer demand. According to data from the National Bureau of Statistics, industrial profits surged 15.2% year-on-year in the January–February period, building on a 5.3% increase recorded in December. The growth was led by raw material producers, with profits in the non-ferrous metals sector soaring 148.2%, while chemical producers posted a 35.9% increase.
