Copper in demand, COMEX futures at six-week top

COMEX Copper futures edged up near six-week high today, approaching $4.70 per pound mark as steady equities kept the overall mood supported. The metal currently trades at $4.68 per pound, up 0.57% on the day. The counter is on track to end the week with around 3% rise. Meanwhile, in Asia, China's Shanghai Composite index eased 0.12%. Hong Kong's Hang Seng added 1.16% Japanese NIKKEI index rose 0.89%. European stocks eased a bit. The US stocks witnessed a strong move to the upside during trading on Thursday as the major averages all reached new record closing highs. The Dow 1.4%, S&P 500 index rose 0.9% and the Nasdaq added 0.7%.
