Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw said the Centre has allocated a record Rs 14,205 crore for West Bengal in the Union Budget 2026-27, compared with Rs 4,300 crore annually during the UPA government between 2009 and 2014.
Replying in the Lok Sabha, he stated that railway projects in West Bengal require 4,662 hectares of land, but only 27% has been acquired so far, with land acquisition yet to begin in several projects.
On Maharashtra, the minister said railway projects worth Rs 1.50 lakh crore are currently underway in the state. He added that the railway budget allocation for Maharashtra stands at Rs 23,926 crore, up sharply from Rs 1,100 crore during the UPA era, and noted that new projects have been launched to improve connectivity to industrial cities.
