Global financial conditions eased in 2025, similar trends expected to prevail this year

World Economic Situation and Prospects 2026 update from United Nations has stated that global financial conditions have eased over the course of 2025, supported by monetary policy easing across many developed and developing countries and a weakening United States dollar. Conditions are expected to remain broadly similar in 2026 amid continued monetary accommodation. Global liquidity rose in 2025, underpinning the continued expansion of cross-border financial flows via both bank lending and portfolio channels. The growth of United States dollar credit to non-bank borrowers outside the United States—a global liquidity indicator tracked by the Bank for International Settlements—accelerated to 6 per cent year-on-year in the second quarter of 2025, up 3 per cent from the fourth quarter of 2024. UN noted that elevated long-term yields in major developed economies, driven by fiscal pressures and term-premium increases, could raise borrowing costs for developing economies.
