Ministry of Communications stated in a latest update that total wireless subscribers increased from 1,157 million (mobile+5G-FWA) at the end of January-25 to 1,160.33 million at the end of February-25, thereby registering a monthly growth rate of 0.27%. Total Wireless subscription in urban areas increased from 631.60 million on January-25 to 634 million on February-25 and the subscription in rural areas also increased from 525.41 million to 526.33 million during the same period. The monthly growth rate of urban and rural wireless subscriptions was 0.35% and 0.18%, respectively.
The Wireless Tele-density in India increased from 82.06% at the end of Jan-25 to 82.23% at the end of Feb-25. The Urban Wireless Tele-density increased from 125.02% at the end of Jan-25 to 125.30% at the end of Feb-25 and the Rural Tele-density also increased from 58.07% to 58.16% during the same period. The share of urban and rural wireless subscribers in the total number of wireless subscribers was 54.64% and 45.36%, respectively, at the end of February-25.
Total wireless (Mobile) subscribers increased from 1,151.29 million at the end of Jan-25 to 1,154.05 million at the end of Feb-25, thereby registering a monthly growth rate of 0.24%. Wireless (Mobile) subscription in urban areas increased from 626.08 million at the end of Jan-25 to 627.94 million at the end of Feb-25 and wireless (Mobile) subscription in rural areas also increased from 525.20 million to 526.11 million during the same period. Monthly growth rate of urban and rural wireless (Mobile) subscription was 0.30% and 0.17% respectively.
In the month of February 2025, 12.06 million subscribers submitted their requests for Mobile Number Portability (MNP). With this, the cumulative MNP requests increased from 1093.33 million at the end of January-25 to 1105.39 million at the end of February-25, since implementation of MNP. Number of active wireless (Mobile) subscribers in February 2025 was 1068.37 million.
As per the information received from 1189 operators in February 2025, in comparison to 1180 operators in January 2025, the total Broadband Subscribers decreased from 945.16 million at the end of January-25 to 944.04 million at the end of February-25 with a monthly decline rate of 0.12%. Wireline subscribers increased from 35.03 million at the end of January-25 to 36.91 million at the end of February-25. Net increase in the wireline subscriber base was 1.88 million with a monthly rate of growth 5.36%. The Overall wireline Tele-density in India increased from 2.48% at the end of January-25 to 2.62% at the end of February-25. Urban and Rural Wireline Tele-density were 6.71% and 0.33%, respectively, during the same period. The share of urban and rural subscribers in total wireline subscribers were 91.93% and 8.07% respectively at the end of February, 2024.
