Apollo Micro Systems hits the roof after securing two tech transfers from DRDO

Apollo Micro Systems was locked in 5% upper circuit at Rs 249.70 after the company announced that it has secured two DRDO technology transfers for directed energy weapon systems.

In a regulatory filing made during market hours today, the company stated that it has received approvals from the Defence Research & Development Organisation (DRDO) for two transfers of technology (ToT) in the domain of directed energy weapon (DEW) systems.

The first technology transfer is for a multi-channel 10 kW laser directed energy weapon system from DRDO-CHESS, Hyderabad, subject to execution of a licensed agreement for transfer of technology (LAToT) and fulfillment of regulatory requirements.

The second technology transfer is for EO Tracking System with EO sensors for DEW from DRDO- Instruments Research & Development Establishment (IRDE), Dehradun.

These ToTs strengthen the company’s capabilities in directed energy weapon subsystems, including laser-based engagement systems and electro-optical tracking solutions, and are aligned with India’s defence indigenisation and Atmanirbhar Bharat initiatives.

DEW Systems use high-powered lasers to inflict damage on targets. Compared to traditional weapons, which mainly rely on physical impact and kinetic energy, DEW uses directed energy to heat up and destroy or damage the target.

It has diverse military applications, offering rapid and precision strikes against threats such as UAVs, missiles, and small vehicles. The most important aspect of DEW is that it can be used in all warfighting environments.

These technologies will enable Apollo Micro Systems to design, manufacture, and support critical DEW subsystems for defence applications, enhancing indigenous capability in advanced weapon systems.

Karunakar Reddy, managing director, said: "The receipt of these two DRDO technology transfers marks a significant milestone for Apollo Micro Systems in the Directed Energy Weapons domain.

Our company is currently developing critical anti-drone systems under the ‘Make’ category for the Indian Armed Forces, wherein both soft-kill and hard-kill solutions, including rocket-based interceptors, are being developed to counter swarm drone threats.

The directed energy weapon (DEW) technologies received through these transfers of technology will serve as an additional capability, complementing our ongoing development efforts, particularly in view of the rapidly evolving threat landscape posed by aerial systems."

Apollo Micro Systems, a 40-year-old pioneer in defence technology, specializes in the design, development, and manufacture of advanced electronic, electro-mechanical, and engineering systems.

The company’s consolidated net profit surged 98.2% to Rs 31.11 crore on 40.2% jump in net sales to Rs 225.26 crore in Q2 Sept 2025 over Q2 Sept 2024.
