Energy shares gain

Energy stocks were trading in the positive zone, with the BSE Energy index rising 172.15 points or 1.56% at 11185.04 at 09:41 IST.


Among the components of the BSE Energy index, Reliance Industries Ltd (up 2.9%), Mahanagar Gas Ltd (up 2.68%),Indraprastha Gas Ltd (up 2.5%),Bharat Petroleum Corporation Ltd (up 1.52%),Adani Total Gas Ltd (up 1.33%), were the top gainers. Among the other gainers were Hindustan Oil Exploration Company Ltd (up 1.28%), Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Ltd (up 1.24%), Oil & Natural Gas Corpn Ltd (up 1.01%), Coal India Ltd (up 0.78%), and Ganesh Benzoplast Ltd (up 0.77%).

On the other hand, Mangalore Refinery And Petrochemicals Ltd (down 3.83%), Chennai Petroleum Corporation Ltd (down 2.06%), and Sandur Manganese & Iron Ores Ltd (down 1.71%) moved lower.

At 09:41 IST, the BSE SmallCap was up 133.5 or 0.28% at 48139.12.

The BSE 150 MidCap Index index was up 96.81 points or 0.66% at 14867.7.

The Nifty 50 index was up 182.3 points or 0.76% at 24221.65.

The BSE Sensex index was up 649.83 points or 0.82% at 79862.36.

On BSE,1592 shares were trading in green, 1446 were trading in red and 173 were unchanged.
