Telecom stocks rise

Telecom stocks were trading with gains, with the S&P BSE Telecommunication index increasing 16.78 points or 0.76% at 2211 at 09:47 IST.


Among the components of the S&P BSE Telecommunication index, GTL Infrastructure Ltd (up 4.7%), Mahanagar Telephone Nigam Ltd (up 4.55%),HFCL Ltd (up 4.39%),Tata Teleservices (Maharashtra) Ltd (up 4.12%),Optiemus Infracom Ltd (up 1.82%), were the top gainers. Among the other gainers were Vodafone Idea Ltd (up 1.28%), Vindhya Telelinks Ltd (up 0.66%), Indus Towers Ltd (up 0.51%), Route Mobile Ltd (up 0.38%), and Bharti Airtel Ltd (up 0.38%).

On the other hand, ITI Ltd (down 1.24%), Railtel Corporation of India Ltd (down 0.37%), and Sterlite Technologies Ltd (down 0.31%) turned lower.

At 09:47 IST, the S&P BSE Sensex was down 137.37 or 0.19% at 71346.38.

The Nifty 50 index was down 20.5 points or 0.1% at 21436.15.

The S&P BSE Small-Cap index was up 182.49 points or 0.43% at 42265.7.

The S&P BSE 150 Midcap Index index was up 15.22 points or 0.12% at 12523.22.

On BSE,1978 shares were trading in green, 1187 were trading in red and 131 were unchanged.
