Sensex slips 144 pts, private bank stocks decline

The key equity indices traded with minor losses in mid-morning trade. The Nifty traded below the 19,050 mark. Private bank shares extended losses for the second day in a row.

At 11:30 IST, the barometer index, the S&P BSE Sensex, was down 143.74 points or 0.23% to 63,731.19. The Nifty 50 index shed 37.40 points or 0.20% to 19,042.20.

In the broader market, the S&P BSE Mid-Cap index declined 0.08% while the S&P BSE Small-Cap index gained 0.33%.

The market breadth is strong, On the BSE, 1,881 shares rose and 1,516 shares fell. A total of 154 shares were unchanged.

Economy:

Posting 55.5 in October, the seasonally adjusted S&P Global India Manufacturing Purchasing Managers’ IndexTM (PMI) signalled an improvement in the health of the sector for the twenty-eighth month in a row.
