Global Sugar Industry Eyes Recovery in 2025–26 Amid Current Supply Deficit

The sugar industry faces a 2024–25 production shortfall due to adverse weather and regional output cuts but a rebound is projected by 2025–26 with improved global yields.


'Dwarikesh Sugar Industries released a presentation that discusses the market scope of sugar production.

According to Green Pool’s April report, the global sugar market is now expected to face a larger deficit of 7 million metric tons (raw value) in the 2024-25 crop year. This revision stems mainly from reduced production estimates in India and several other Asian countries, with global output now forecasted at 189.1 million metric tons. Looking ahead, Green Pool projects a recovery in 2025-26, with a surplus of 1.14 million metric tons and global sugar production revised upward to 199.1 million metric tons. In contrast, the International Sugar Organization (ISO) has issued a lower estimate, pegging 2024-25 global production at 175.5 million metric tons.

For India, net sugar production in 2024-25 is projected at 26.4 million tons, factoring in the diversion of around 3.5 million tons for ethanol. While international agencies are forecasting a strong 2025-26 crop for India,...
