Indian capital markets see sustained investor engagement and momentum

The 27% YoY surge in demat accounts and a 98% CAGR in derivatives turnover has made FY25 a year of high-growth phase for India’s capital markets.


'5Paisa Capital has released a presentation that discusses the market outlook for investments in Indian market.

A total of 41 million demat accounts were opened in FY25 (27% increase YoY). The rise in digitization, investor awareness, improved market access, and its relative performance has driven increased market participation. The Derivative Average Daily Turnover (ADTO) has seen an exponential rise at 98% CAGR over the last 5 years. Growth is driven by new participants, products and algorithmic trading. The number of NSE Active clients has grown by 4.6x in the past 5 yrs. After a slight dip in FY23, active NSE clients has surged to 49.2 million in Mar’25, highlighting sustained investor engagement and momentum.
