Month of Sep 18 has seen all time high trading volumes

Key Highlights

Total trading volumes increased by 17% in Sep 18 quarter due to increase in procurement from distribution companies.

Month of Sep 18 has seen all time high trading volumes since many months. Around 40% higher volumes on MoM basis in Sep 18 month

Renewable power volumes increased by 23% while thermal only 4% on YoY basis. Thermal volumes were lower due to availability of coal issues which restricted the procurement and overall trading volumes.

Overall Power demand increased by 6% in H1 FY 19. Peak demand rose 8% to 176 GW in Sep 18.

No new long term PPA have been signed. No incremental PPAs happening so more trading will come in place.

There is a good demand in volumes currently and its increasing only. Discoms account for 80% of electricity trading volumes and rest from open access customers.
